Contrary to the western part of the Algarve, the coastal area east of Faro has not yet been discovered by mass tourism. Fuzeta (also spelled 'Fuseta') is an authentic fishing village in this part and is situated between Olhão (9 km / 5.6 miles) and Tavira (14 km / 8.7 miles) bordering on nature reserve Ria Formosa. The town is known for its cubical, white houses with roof terraces and ornate, sometimes Moorish, gables.
Fuzeta still depends very much on the fishing industry and is surrounded by citrus plantations, saltpans and vineyards. The fruits of Fuzeta's labour can be found at the colourful indoor market which opens its doors every morning, apart from Sundays.
In Fuzeta you will find everything you need within walking distance of Casa Levante. There are many little shops, local supermarkets, bakeries, a post office, banks and a chemist's. The town square forms the heart of the village. Here you can sit outside under the palm trees to have a coffee or a beer and savour local dishes at a bargain.
